Al Green classic sales jump

THE ULTIMATE COVER VERSION: Week-over-week of “Let's Stay Together” jumped 490% after President Obama sang a few lines of the 1972 hit at a fundraiser at the Apollo Theater last week, according to the bible. The song was downloaded 16k times in the week ending Jan. 22, the most it’s gotten since SoundScan began tracking downloads in 2003. Obama's impromptu performance caught the attention of American Idol. “We loved your vocal performance so much we'd love to invite you on to #American Idol this Season for a duet with Al Green, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe tweeted at the President's official account Friday. Green said the Prez “nailed it,” telling TMZ, "I was thrilled that the President even mentioned my name, and if the President can get the economy going again and get everything going that he wants to, then we'll all be together." House Democrats recorded their own cover of the song and presented it to him Friday, Politico reported. (1/30a)
