STEVE RIVERS, legendary radio programmer whose real name was Carl Belcher, passed away due to cardiac arrest in Tampa, FL, where he was in an assisted living facility, surrounded by family. Over the last few years Rivers had been battling the effects of a number of strokes and related conditions. During his remarkable career, Rivers programmed such iconic stations as WAPE Jacksonville, KOPA Phoenix, KMEL S.F., WZOU and WXKS Boston, KIIS-FM L.A. and KBKS Seattle. He also held corporate posts at CBS Radio as VP Programming, Sr. VP/Founding Partner at Radio Central, Chief Programming Officer at AM/FM as well as heading up programming for Chancellor Media, Evergreen Media and Pyramid Broadcasting under Richie Balsbaugh.
