The Voice to premiere in UK

WILL THE VOICE MAKE NOISE ACROSS THE POND?
Fascinating piece in The Guardian about the battle taking shape on U.K. TV between Simon Cowell’s perennial juggernauts The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, and a formidable new challenger—yup, The Voice is also knocking ’em dead in Britain. The show, on the BBC, boasts an all-star cast of coaches: “Half a million pounds of license fee payers' money is being spent on will.i.am's fee alone,” writes Dan Sabbagh; “the Black Eyed Peas frontman is raking in half the 1m talent bill. Veteran crooner Sir Tom Jones is taking home an estimated 250,000, Jessie J a little less, and the relatively unknown Danny O'Donoghue from the Script is still pulling in six figures.” Sabbagh describes a fierce battle behind the scenes pitting John de Mol, “the billionaire television producer who has been casting around for a hit he owns to match the success of his Big Brother,” and Lucian Grainge, “Cowell's biggest rival in the music business,” against the mighty Simon. Whatever’s going on in front of the cameras can’t possibly match this competition for drama. The Voice will debut on March 24, going head to head with ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent. Read it here.
