Laura Kaufman Passes

LAURA HELEN KAUFMAN, 66, veteran record industry publicist and manager, died March 3, at the age of 66 in Simi Valley, CA. A native New Yorker, she turned her passionate love of rock & roll into a 40-year career that resulted in her work having a profound effect upon the careers of such bands as Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, New York Dolls, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Styx, Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and many others. She became a publicist at Leber-Krebs, then joined the Howard Bloom Organization. Laura moved to L.A. in the ‘80s and became Vice President of Media at CMC (now Sanctuary Records). She later branched out on her own and started her own management, publicity and media-consulting firm, Laura Kaufman Company.  Laura was as passionate about her clients and many loyal friends as she was about her beloved Yankees, Knicks and tennis. She most recently completed two novels, Rock in a Hard Place and Birds of a Feather about what she knew best, combining her years of experience being around and working in the rock and roll world with her ability as a fantastic storyteller. She was also planning to start a magazine. A devoted friend and animal advocate, Laura is survived by her sister, Emily Gallo, her nephew, Chris Saur, and her niece, Eva Saur(3/22p)
