IB on Caren, Janick

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS: Atlantic/Elektra exec Mike Caren is expected to make a new deal at Sony Music as early as this week. Another Craig Kallman creative player, John Janick, who’s responsible for the exploding fun., may become the next key WMG player to jump ship following WBR urban boss Joie Manda and Caren. But Janick’s current deal is being characterized by the prospective buyer as a very expensive one that may be too far-reaching for it to match. Rumors persist that Julie Greenwald will join Lyor Cohen wherever he ends up, as she did when he moved from IDJ to WMG, though she has apparently won the hearts and minds of the current Warner hierarchy. Can Kallman survive and become the man? Some believe that can’t happen without Greenwald or another strong marketing partner who can run the show. (3/29a)
