Richie to Get NARM Honor

RICHIE GETS RICHER: Fresh off record-breaking first-week sales of his Tuskegee album, Lionel Richie will receive the Chairman’s Award for Sustained Creative Achievement at NARM and digitalmusic.org’s Music Biz 2012 Awards Dinner Party at L.A.'s Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel May 10. The Award will be presented by NARM Chairman Rachelle Friedman, CEO of J&R Music & Computer World in N.Y. Tuskegee, on which Lionel collaborated with top Country artists such as Willie Nelson, Rascal Flatts and Blake Shelton, to reimagine many of his biggest hits, debuted at #2 on the album chart, his highest position since 1986. Said NARM President Jim Donio: "Like the music industry itself, he has shown remarkable resilience in the face of countless challenges, and has maintained his artistic integrity and relevance through it all. And I just loved his movie, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels… Whatddaya mean, not that Richie?” (4/11p)
