Tupac on Tour?

TUPAC LIVES: That digital recreation of late rapper Tupac Shakur which showed up during Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s Coachella-closing set Sunday night could be set to tour. The two rappers intend to discuss the logistics of bringing the 2-D projection on the road with them. One of two options reportedly being considered is a stadium tour with other hip-hop icons, including artists who joined the trio Sunday night, or smaller dates without the entourage. The tour is reportedly "likely but not guaranteed." The likeness of Shakur, who was killed in 1996, was reproduced by Digital Domain Media Group, combining cutting-edge technology with a visual trick dubbed Pepper's Ghost that dates back to the 1800s. "This is not found footage. This is not archival footage," Digital Domain chief creative officer Ed Ulbrich told the Wall Street Journal. "This is an illusion." He added that Sunday's performances of "Hail Mary" and "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" are "just the beginning… Dre has a massive vision for this." Meanwhile, footage of the performance was mysterously removed from the Internet shortly after it appeared as "property of Coachella." (4/17a)
