MTV VMA Tidbits

MTV VMA WRAP: Yesterday’s announcement of the MTV Video Music Award nominations presents some interesting battles that should take place Sept. 6 at Staples Center, including a variation of the Drake-Chris Brown brawl in the Best Male Video category, where the combatants will face off against Justin Bieber, Frank Ocean and Usher. BTW, the Drake clip, “Take Care,” features Rihanna, the object of their animosities. Other interesting tidbits: Glassnote’s Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover getting a nod in the Best Hip-Hop Video category, where his competition will include Drake, Kanye West, Watch the Throne and Nicki Minaj. Meanwhile, in the Best Rock Video noms, Provo, UT, band Imagine Dragons’ “It’s Time” will challenge biggies Linkin Park, Jack White, Coldplay and the Black Keys with the video from their indie EP. The group has since inked a major label deal with Interscope. For a complete rundown on yesterday’s nominations, go here. (8/1p)
