JUST WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS: A 23-year-old SoundCloud user has made a mashup of “Call Me Maybe” and “Gangnam Style,” and the viral success of this shotgun marriage has taken its creator by surprise. “Honestly it started off as a joke between my cousin and me. He was dancing ‘Gangnam Style’ to ‘Call Me Maybe’ and I decided to do a mashup,” Michael Simmons told the N.Y. Daily News. The Sacramento-area student only spent about two hours mixing the two tracks on his computer, which he said was actually pretty easy. A few days after uploading the track to SoundCloud this month, Simmons said he woke up and was shocked to see how many views the mashup had clocked on the site and beyond. As of this morning, the song has gotten nearly 650k plays. “If I had known it was going to blow up, I would have done a better job,” said Simmons. (9/24a)
