TGIF: An eventful seven days in the music biz comes to a tidy resolution today with the formal transfer of the ownership of EMI Music from Citigroup to Universal. Frankly, we feel kinda relieved and drained at the same time, as if we’d just finished a 700-page novel. But never fear—the next volume in the series will surely provide some intrigue of its own, as UMG auctions off the stipulated assets in an auction that should attract a colorful field of bidders, while lots of people—some famous, some not—find themselves in new locations and altered circumstances. . As Dan Wilson, onetime leader of MCA Records’ Semisonic, memorably wrote late in the last century, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” (9/28a)
