Springsteen and Clinton stump for Obama

BORN TO RUN: Bruce Springsteen and Bill Clinton stumped for Obama yesterday at a rally in Parma, OH, Rollingstone.com reports, occasioning a flurry of quotable lines. "He's one of the coolest dudes I've ever met. A guy who reflects our real American values," said Clinton, referring not to the Commander in Chief but to the Boss, just before he kicked off a seven-song, 35-minute mini-set. "I get to speak after President Clinton," Springsteen said. "That's like going on after Elvis. I was frantically calling the E Street Band backstage saying, 'Quick, I need backup. I need backup. Human speech has been monopolized.' If I had brought the saxophone, you would have seen a real jam up here." For the setlist, he went with "No Surrender," "The Promised Land," a song he made up on the spot at Obama’s request, an updated "Youngstown" (an Ohio town just 71 miles from Parma), his first solo acoustic performance of the Obama campaign song "We Take Care of Our Own," "This Land Is Your Land" and "Thunder Road." "Thank you, Ohio," he said as he walked offstage. "Let's elect President Obama for four more years!" (10/19a)
