Stones 50 in London

STONES ROLL ON: The Rolling Stones began their 50th anniversary tour last night at London’s O2 Arena, joined by former members Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor, with guest stars Mary J. Blige and Jeff Beck. Wyman returned to play bass on "It's Only Rock and Roll" and "Honky Tonk Women” (see video below), while Taylor, who hasn't been a Stone since 1974, played on an extended version of "Midnight Rambler." Blige brought a gospel feel to "Gimme Shelter," trading vocals with Mick Jagger, and Beck performed a flashy guitar turn on "I'm Going Down." The set spanned the band's half-century career, from their second-ever single, 1963's "I Wanna Be Your Man" to their latest, 2012's "Doom and Gloom." The evening began with a video in which stars from Iggy Pop to Elton John and Johnny Depp to Nick Cave revealed their first time hearing the Stones. The 23-song, two and a half hour set list, which closed with “Sympathy for the Devil,” included an encore with two choirs for “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” followed by “Jumping Jack Flash,” though “Satisfaction” was missing from the set. The band will play another show at the 02, followed by a show at Barclays Center in Brooklyn (12/8) and two at Newark’s Prudential Center (12/13 and 12/15). (11/26p)
