A COCKLE FOR VIRGIN: Island UK co-prexy Ted Cockle has been named President of Virgin Records UK, Music Week reports. He started at Island in 2005; he and fellow Island prez Darcus Beese (who will now occupy that position solo) stepped jointly into the leadership of Island in 2008 and enjoyed success with acts like Mumford & Sons, Amy Winehouse and Florence + the Machine. Virgin, now celebrating its 40th anniversary, is also hailing 1.4m sales of Brit phenom Emeli Sandé. As Virgin UK chief, Cockle will report to Universal Music UK Chairman/CEO David Joseph and be obliged to endure naughty double entendres about his name with relative good humor. (1/24p)
