GRAMMY BUILD-UP: The Recording Academy’s Special Merit Awards Ceremony will present Lifetime Achievement Awards to Glenn Gould, Charlie Haden, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Carole King, Patti Page, Ravi Shankar and the Temptations; the Trustees Award to Marilyn & Alan Bergman, Leonard & Phil Chess and ex-Capitol Records President Alan Livingston; and the Technical Award to Roland Corp. founder Ikutaro Kakehashi & Sequential Circuits President Dave Smith and Royer Labs at the Wilshire Ebell Theater on Saturday afternoon from 3-5 p.m. The Trustees Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the industry in areas other than performance, while the Technical Award honors an individual's and/or corporation's outstanding contributions of technical significance to the recording field.
