David Braun Passes

DAVID BRAUN, 81, a prominent music business attorney and former PolyGram label head, who represented Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, George Harrison and Michael Jackson, among others, passed away in Santa Barbara after a long illness. Among his survivors is son Lloyd Braun, the former Chairman of ABC Entertainment and head of Yahoo's Media Group, now the founding partner of entertainment company Berman/Braun. Braun was known for dramatically improving the standard recording and music publishing deals on behalf of his superstar clients, including right of reversion, limited-term foreign publishing rights and higher royalty rates. The Bronx-born attorney was introduced to Dylan by Bob's manager Albert Grossman. Many of today's most prominent music attorneys got their start working for him, including John Branca. Braun briefly left the practice of law to become President/CEO of PolyGram Records in 1981. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Merna, sons Lloyd, Kenneth and Evan and eight grandchildren.
