Alabama Shakes SNL/Best New #1,

GRAMMY FEVER, BEST NEW ARTIST EDITION (PART ONE): The antibiotics haven't helped, so we guess our Grammy fever is going to have to run its course. Let's talk Best New Artist nominees, shall we? ATO's The Alabama Shakes--who have just been confirmed as musical guests on the Feb. 16 installment of Saturday Night Live (hosted by Django Unchained co-star Christoph Waltz)--bring soul-inflected rock into the 21st Century, thanks in large part to powerhouse lead singer Brittany Howard. Their song "Hold On," you may recall, is a contender for Best Rock Performance (and appears on Capitol's 2013 Grammy Nominees album). And yes, they're really from Alabama. (1/30p)
