LaPolt Defeats Kovac in Tyler Trial

LAPOLT VS.  KOVAC: The Superior Court of California isused a ruling in favor of Attorney Dina LaPolt, granting her motion on three of manager Allen Kovac’s claims against her regarding the alleged mismanagement of Steven Tyler's career, specifically the amount negotiated for him to appear as a judge on American Idol.  The Court recognized that Kovac’s action was a strategic lawsuit against public participation, also known as a “SLAPP.”  The purpose of anti-SLAPP  is to deter lawsuits that are designed to censor and intimidate people so they succumb to legal threats. The judge determined Kovac’s three claims had no merit. Two additional claims relating to Motley Crue were also ruled in LaPolt’s favor. LaPolt's attorney, Christine Lepera of Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp, says “the claims against her are baseless and the decision at this early stage of litigation vindicates LaPolt’s reputation. We look forward to recovering legal fees for this ill-advised lawsuit.”  The motion papers upon which the Court made its decision included declarations in support of LaPolt from her clients, Tyler and Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars.  Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee also filed a declaration supporting LaPolt.
