LEATHER, LACE & LOTS OF HAIR: Beyoncé silenced the skeptics with a bravura halftime performance at Super Bowl XLVII last night, highlighted by the reunion of Destiny’s Child, as Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined her on "Bootylicious," "Independent Woman: Part 1" and "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)." Here’s the whole performance, in case you wanna watch it again. As for the commercials, there were no “We Are Young” breakout musical moments, but Taco Bell provided a wry commentary on last year’s phenomenon by pairing a Spanish-language cover of Nate Reuss’ anthem with footage of old folks escaping the retirement home for a night out. Elsewhere, Budweiser appropriated Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” for this year’s poignant Clydesdale moment, and VW put lilting Jamaican patois into the mouth of a white-bread Minnesota businessman—generating plenty of laughs and prompting the inevitable PC outcry of racism.
