Details on BMG-Sanctuary

A HEAVY LOAD: In a press release issued this morning about BMG’s acquisition of Sanctuary (see 2/14 item below) CEO Hartwig Masuch said: “We are delighted to have won the opportunity to work with the exceptional lineup of artists in the Sanctuary catalog. We have made no secret of our ambition to create a new force in the music industry focused on delivering service and revenue to artists. We believe this deal will be good news for those artists, good news for our partners particularly in the independent sector and good news for the music industry as a whole.” Along with the rights to 19 Black Sabbath albums and the entire Megadeth catalog, the Sanctuary deal includes masters from The Kinks (17 albums and a slew of ’60s classics), Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Uriah Heep, Bruce Dickinson, Hanoi Rocks, Girlschool, Toots and the Maytals, Desmond Dekker, Lee Scratch Perry, The Damned, X-Ray Spex, Sham 69, Jonathan Richman, The Fall, Donovan, Bert Jansch, Pentangle, Lindisfarne, Steeleye Span, Status Quo, Petula Clark, Mungo Jerry, The Searchers, The Small Faces (U.K. only) and selected Bob Marley recordings—170k tracks in all.
