Big Star Doc Gets Distribution

BIG STAR HITS BIG SCREEN: Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me, the music documentary story of the cult band from Memphis fronted by the late Alex Chilton, has been picked up for North American distribution by Magnolia Pictures. Directed by Drew DeNicola and Oliva Mori and produced by Mori and Danielle McCarthy, the film shows how influential Big Star was for a whole generation of bands like R.E.M. and The Replacements. It was first screened at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival and was later world premiered at BFI London. The film includes interviews with band members, never-before-seen footage and also counts among its credits Ardent Studios founder and owner John Fry as an executive producer. Check out the film's Facebook page here. It opens later this summer. (2/19p)
