LET THE RIDE BEGIN: Publishing-management firm Pulse Recording and veteran music publishing and film exec Joe Rangel have joined forces to launch music-services company Hitcher, which serves as Pulse’s film/TV arm and provides sync placement, marketing and music supervision for labels such as Republic, Island Def Jam, Parlophone and others, as well as a number of pubcos. Pulse, founded by Josh Abraham and Scott Cutler, has established itself as a creative center for writers and producers; the company’s stable has produced hits for Katy Perry, Phillip Phillips and Neon Trees, among others. Rangel served at EMI Music Publishing, EMI-Capitol Records and Miramax Films. Hitcher is now placing music on Showtime’s Shameless, CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, Fox’s The Mindy Project and various indie films, among other projects. "Joe Rangel is a forward-thinking executive and I'm excited about the opportunities he presents to our company in film television and multi-media music placements," reads a quote from Cutler. "Hitcher is a necessary new voice in music sync, and our clients will greatly benefit from this extension of our music services." (3/28p)
