Spectacle: The Music Video

VIDDY THAT: Today marks the opening of Spectacle: The Music Video--the first-ever major museum exhibition dedicated to the form--at New York's Museum of the Moving Image. The wide-ranging exhibit includes 300 clips, including seminal vids from pioneers like Devo and Madonna and such latter-day artists as OK Go and Lady Gaga, with interactive displays, iconic costumes, props and more. Sponsors include VEVO and Sonos, with additional support from Adobe. "Music and the moving image have been linked since the dawn of sound, from Vitaphone shorts and concert documentaries to MTV and the Web," declared Museum Executive Director Carl Goodman. "Today, when the success of a viral video can make a hit song, the power and cultural significance of the music video are as strong as ever. And remember when ZZ Top pointed at that guy's car and made it all cool? That was awesome." (4/3p)
