Weakend Box Office Numbers

YOUR WEAKEND BOX OFFICE WRAP: Tom Cruise returned to the top of the box office ranks as his Universal sci-fi thriller, Oblivion, was the top grosser this past weekend, with $38m at 3,783 theaters for a per-screen average of $10k. That domestic total comes on top of the $33.7 million the film added in overseas markets, where it began rolling out a week earlier. The movie raised its overseas total to $112 million and its worldwide receipts to $150.2 million. The previous weekend’s top film, Warner Bros.' Jackie Robinson biopic 42, held up nicely, slipping to second place with $18 million in its second weekend, for a total of $54 million and a per-screen average of $5.5k.. Fox’s animated The Croods came in a distant third place, with about $9.5 million in ticket sales for a five-week total of $155 million. Dimension’s horror spoof Scary Movie 5 earned another $6.2 million for a two-week total of $23 million, while Paramount’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation picked up another $5.8 million for a four-week run of $111 million. For the full list, see www.boxofficemojo.com (4/22p)
