Record Store Day Results

RECORD-BREAKING DAY: The sixth annual Record Store Day, coincidentally held on 4/20, is in the books and once again the gains were unprecedented. RSD co-founder Michael Kurtz tells us that overall sales were up more than 30% over last year. Waterloo RecordsJohn Kunz in Austin was not alone in reporting that it was the biggest sales day in the history of his store. He was up some 40%, selling through a whopping 77% of the 457 titles he brought in for the event. The previous high for his store was set in Dec. 2005. “We never thought we’d ever best that number.” Hundreds of fans lined up outside of the thousand stores that participated. Kurtz also said that they logged over one million fans that went to the RSD site to find out where to buy music. (4/22p)
