Open the Doors App

BABY, LIGHT MY APP: A multi-media iPad app dedicated to chronicling the career of The Doors, featuring cloud integration with iTunes and a Facebook connection, went on sale yesterday for $4.99, the handiwork of 81-year-old music industry legend (and Elektra founder) Jac Holzman, who created the product with a small team of engineers. Dubbed a “digital coffee table book,” the app includes video interviews, tributes from Francis Ford Coppola and Patti Smith, visual inventories of the band’s recording equipment, an annotated Doors-era map of Hollywood and even 30 pages of transcripts from Jim Morrison’s 1970 indecent exposure trial. The darn thing does everything but get you high. You’ll have to sniff under the doors of UMPG’s offices for that. (5/7p)
