Weakend Box Office

YOUR NITRO-BURNING WEAKEND BOX OFFICE: Universal PicturesFast & Furious 6 outpaced the rest of the cinematic track on its second consecutive weekend, adding $34.5m to its Memorial-Day-weekend U.S. take of $120m+ (the lead single for the soundtrack, meanwhile, remains Top 5 on the iTunes singles chart). The Summit/Lionsgate magic-caper flick Now You See Me, meanwhile, overperformed in its debut. But Will Smith’s sci-fi outing After Earth, co-starring his son Jaden and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, was off to a less than stellar start for Sony Pictures (considerably below expectations) amid some of the worst reviews we’ve seen in a while. The $16.4m beamed up by Paramount's Star Trek: Into Darkness for its third week (tying it with the animated Epic) brings that film close to the $200 million mark in worldwide ticket sales.
