Melrose upped to head Epic UK

MELROSE PLACED: Rumors swirling around the British Isles have Sony UK chieftain Nick Gatfield anointing Steven Melrose as Managing Director of Epic UK. Melrose, who worked closely with Gatfield at EMI before re-joining him at Sony as head of A&R, also served as an A&R exec at Island. He founded the indie label/management outfit leftwing at the dawn of the millennium. If the rumors are accurate, Melrose will balance running Epic with making sure Gatfield's daily tea service includes plenty of Jaffa Cakes. (6/6p)
