Indie distrib talks

DISTRIBUTED WEIGHT, PART 2: As previously reported, the Beggars Group, Secretly Canadian and Merge labels are meeting as a collective with every indie distribbery, including their current home of ADA, to try and drastically reduce their distribution fees, hold on to their digital rights, and have the ability to sell to the independent sector directly. That said, the parties aren’t all looking for exactly the same things from the proposed deal. Beggars and Secretly Canadian already have the ability to sell directly to the independent sector. Estimates say that between 50% and 75% of the indies are already buying directly from them, saving some $1.25 per unit. Merge would have the most to gain on that front. But Merge already has the rights to its digital sales, as does Beggars. The biggest winner on that issue would be Secretly Canadian. Obviously all three would benefit from the reduced distribution fees. Will they all get the deal they are looking for as they bargain as a group? And are Domino and Saddle Creek a part of this cabal, or not? Stay tuned. In other distribution news, UMPG security guard T-Shake is back from "lunch," so you can pick up your orders at his kiosk.
