SAX, LIES & VIDEOTAPE: The clip for Vampire Weekend’s “Diane Young,” the band’s first Modern Rock hit (even with two straight chart-topping debuts, strangely enough), premiered on VEVO last week, and it’s every bit as fundamentally bizarre as the track itself, which has been compared to everything between rockabilly from another galaxy to a (possibly ironic) tribute to Kenny Loggins’ “Footloose.” Feast your eyes and ears on the genius weirdness of VW—and pay particular attention to one particular shot, which inspired the comment, “1:06 why haven't i thought of that?” We can’t be sure, but we have a sneaking suspicion that said comment was authored by a certain UMPG security guard. Another comment, from one RomanticElizabeth, was more critical. “Sorry but a band that has had two #1 albums can't be a hipster band,” she sniffed. “People don't even know the meaning of that word anymore.” So true, RomanticElizabeth, so true.
