MySpace

SOCIAL STUDIES: The new iteration of social-networking trailblazer MySpace is out of beta, and the music-focused firm has also rolled out a new mobile app (for iOS devices only). Promising "to power a new ecosystem catering directly to the creative community," per CEO Tim Vanderhook, the retooled, redesigned MySpace now boasts My Radio (custom radio like iTunes Radio and Pandora), analytics and other tools for artists, a new .gif-creating widget and front-page real estate for users. You'll also hear Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie" a lot. Interestingly, you can log in with a Facebook or Twitter account. Folks without Apple products will find a "mobile-optimized" version for their Android phones, Windows tablets and the like. Will these bells and whistles resonate with maddeningly fickle social networkers? We shall see. (6/12p)
