Big Star doc

YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE: Big Star: No One Can Hurt Me, Drew DiNicola and Olivia Mori’s riveting, lively and deeply poignant documentary about the hugely influential, star-crossed ’70s cult band, sold out in its New York and L.A. theatrical premieres last week. After the showings at L.A.'s Nuart Friday and Saturday night, lone surviving member Jody Stephens sat for Q&A sessions with DiNicola before performing a handful of songs (despite a sore throat) with a pickup band comprising Luther Russell, Jason Hiller and Posies/Big Star reboot mainstay Jon Auer. By the way, our own Karen Glauber makes a cameo appearance in the film, while quotes from Bud Scoppa’s reviews of #1 Record and Radio City flash on the screen, though without his byline. Bud did get an acknowledgment in the end credits, however, along with props from Stephens during the Q&A for his ongoing involvement in the band’s career, such as it was (the same can be said for his own A&R career, for that matter).
