A FAR FROM SLIM SUM: Shazam (the song-I.D. app, as opposed to Kazam, the classic Shaquille O’Neal film) has picked up a sweet $40 million in funding from phone company America Movil, or more precisely from its owner, the colorfully named and filthy-rich Carlos Slim. The partnership will further increase Shazam’s user base, currently at 350 million, compared to just 22 million two years ago. “We are growing incredibly quickly,” Shazam topper Andrew Fisher boasted on Mashable. “Part of our need is just to buy capacity to support this on the ramp of users and people spending more time on the service… Hey, what the hell is the name of that song by that French duo that I keep hearing on the radio?
