New Moonman, more

NOT SO HEAVY METAL: The MTV Video Music Awards Moonman has been redesigned , giving the silver spaceman his first facelift in 30 years, MTV News reported. The one-off redesign has been undertaken in honor of the show's debut at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Aug. 25 The trophy has been given a face-lift by artist KAWS, who has redesigned other icons, including the Simpsons and Michelin Man. "I like the idea that at this moment, this first time in Brooklyn, the Moonman's going to change," the Brooklyn-based artist said. KAWS' Moonman features a gun-metal finish, a skull-and-crossbones head with long ears and Companion's the cartoonish gloves of his trademark figure Companion, itself inspired by Mickey Mouse's mitts… In other metal statuary news, Daft Punk action figures will hit stores later this year, Consequence of Sound reports. The six-inch figures, designed under the duo's supervision, will portray Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo dolled up, so to speak, in their Random Access Memories outfits. The figures are "crafted with meticulous attention to detail—[the] helmet area employs a shiny metallic finish and clear parts for enhanced realism," according to a product description. The action figures will also come with seven sets of interchangeable hand parts to collect, for purposes of recreating "dynamic posing." The miniatures are available for pre-order and will be released on Dec. 27, two days after Christmas. What’s up with that? (7/10a)
