Colbert leaks word of Daft Punk VMAs appearance

IF YOU CAN’T “GET LUCKY,” GET EVEN: MTV has secretly booked Daft Punk to perform on the Video Music Awards. We know that because Stephen Colbert leaked it on the air after the duo canceled a planned appearance on Colbert’s show as part of Colbchella 2013. He did so as an act of revenge because either MTV or Daft had decided that the VMAs performance had to be exclusive (see below). “You see, we booked Click and Clack over here about a month ago,” a pissed-off Colbert blabbed. on last night’s Report. “Well, apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards. Don’t tell anybody, because fun fact: No one told me until two o’ clock yesterday.” Colbert filled the hole by booking Robin Thicke to perform “Blurred Lines,” as well as assembling an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Hugh Laurie, Jeff Bridges, Bryan Cranston (pictured), Jimmy Fallon, Henry Kissinger (believe it or not), the Rockettes and Jon Stewart via satellite to do “Get Lucky.” We wanted to watch the perf, but it got pulled down from YouTube, and we have Time Warner Cable. Wonder if they’ll make up with Viacom by 8/25 so we can watch the VMAs. (8/7a)
