Tues radio recap

YOUR RADIO RECAP: Ready for more radio talk? Well, drink more coffee. There, isn't that better? OK, here we go with a wrap-up of the action at a couple of key formats.

TOP 40
Lady Gaga's "Applause" (Interscope) and Katy Perry's "Roar" (Capitol) dominate the new adds this week at Top 40; the two songs are on virtually every Pop station in America, and both closed out in the first week. Avicii's "Wake Me Up" (PRMD/Island/IDJ) had another stellar week with 38 new stations; it's now on 80% of the panel and looks destined for a Top 5 run. Lorde's "Royals" (Lava/Republic) has a huge second week at Pop, as 36 more come in, including both L.A. stations, KIIS and KAMP. Hollywood's Selena Gomez picks up 20 more with her follow-up single "Slow Down," which is quickly on 50 stations. The Wanted's "We Own The Night" (Island/IDJ) and Daft Punk's "Lose Yourself To Dance" (Columbia) both posted nice first weeks.

ALTERNATIVE
Cage The Elephant's "Come A Little Closer" (RCA) had a big cleanup week at Modern Rock, as their new hit single is the most added song in America. The return of Republic's AFI is off to a strong start, as "17 Crimes" picks up another 10 stations in its second week. Glassnote had a real nice debut with Chvrches' "The Mother We Share." After that, it was a potpourri of choices, as many records like XL's Vampire Weekend and Matador's Queens Of The Stone Age picked up new stations.

Whew! OK, time to cut that coffee buzz with a visit to the UMPG vending machine. Let's see ... malted kush balls? Meh. Lemon-ginger Thai stick bars? Mebbe ... Ah, here we go: Canni-biscuits! Hold my calls, please. (8/20p)
