VEVO

PEEP SHOW: What sets VEVO apart from the competition? Well, there's its big jump in worldwide viewership (1.58 billion as of June, up from 1.17 billion in mid-2012) and unique viewers (up 27%), among other stats cited in the company's new viewership report, about which more later. There's also the 24-hour music network it's rolled out on various platforms and plans to offer to pay-TV outlets. That's all cool, but it's worth pointing out that VEVO is also the place to go for explicit music videos featuring lots of skin, like the unrated "Blurred Lines," the breathlessly discussed new video for "Wrecking Ball" by RCA's Miley Cyrus or the above clip from Island/IDJ's Iggy Azalea, "Change Your Life." Artists like Iggy and Miley are pushing the envelope with their provocative clips, prompting tons of discussion and undoubtedly giving a giant boost to VEVO, the only major online outlet that doesn't censor content. Now you understand why we watch these vids over and over all day long: Research. For this week's VEVO premieres, go here; the VEVOtv chart is here. (9/10a)
