Adapter Prize

MOVING THE NEEDLE: Some awards are splashy and blingy, while others are just cool. They might not bring out the paparazzi, but they come with serious cred. So congratulations to the winners of the first-ever Adapter Prize from Record Store Day, notably Record of the Year (New Release) recipients Tame Impala, for their Modular album, Lonerism. Other winners: The Postal Service (Reissue), GZA (Release of the Year) and comeback kid Rodriguez (Breakout of the Year). The Adapter Prize is modeled on he circular plastic piece needed to play a 45 RPM single on a turntable. "That is pretty awesome," said Tame's Kevin Parker. "We know you record-store folk know your shit and wouldn't hand this title out to just anyone, so this means a lot." Meanwhile, in a small record store somewhere, a hipster with a fanciful beard was saying he couldn't offer more than 20 bucks for a dude's collection of rare vinyl imports. (9/11p)
