Rdio goes free mobile and ad-free

Hurt by increasing competition and technical glitches in recent months, Rdio has busted out free mobile stations for iOS and Android, Digital Music News reports. These stations are free "forever" for everyone, the underdog service promises. They’re also ad-free, something no other free service can claim apart from Nokia Music, but it's only available on Nokia Lumia phones. The main attraction, DMN speculates, will probably be the newly added stations You FM and Friend FM, which personalize stations based on users' listening habits and likes. Rdio’s subscription base has reportedly passed 200k, which is relatively miniscule, but at least it’s heading in the right direction. How the service plans to monetize given the absence of ad revenue is a mystery, however. (10/4a)
