Weekend Box-Office

YOUR WEAKEND BOX OFFICE: Alfonso Cuarón's critically adored space drama Gravity has lift-off with audiences too, pulling in a boffo $55m in its first frame; its take, a new record for October, was propelled by stratospheric 3D ticket prices as well as starry word of mouth and Oscar buzz. Next came the animated sequel Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, which has made $60.5m in two weeks. The Timberlake-Affleck thriller Runner Runner stumbled out of the gate with $7.6m, intenso kidnap thriller Prisoners has made back its budget and racing-rivalry flick Rush keeps struggling for traction in its third week.

1. Gravity (WB) — $55.5m, 3,575/%15,538 avg. (debut)
2. Cloudy With a Chance ... (Sony) — $21.5m, 4,001/%5,374 avg. (week 2)
3. Runner Runner (Fox) — $7.6m, 3,026/$2,512 avg. (debut)
4. Prisoners (WB) — $5.7m 3,236/$1,761 avg. (week 3)
5. Rush (Universal) — $4.4m, 2,308/$1,910 (week 3)

By the way, Gravity can add $27m or so to its purse thanks to similarly sky-high foreign receipts. But what about Blue Jasmine, you ask? Woody Allen's depressed-lady-movie-that-could has now raked in $31.3m in 11 weeks. (10/7a)
