Miley on Fallon, Kanye on Kimmel

THE BEST OF LATE-NIGHT: More than ever, it seems, pop stars (those larger-than-life personalities who no longer have any use for their last names) prefer to make image adjustments after 11:30 PM. In one of this week’s highlights, Kanye West accepted Jimmy Kimmel’s invitation to appear on his show after the celebrity rapper tweeted his objections to a Kimmel-created video making fun of Kanye’s ego. After introducing his guest, Kimmel played a bit of his spoof for West, who admitted he hadn’t seen the whole thing prior to launching into his ALL-CAPS Twitter rant. Kanye’s purpose in appearing on the show was apparently to insist that none of his public meltdowns have been calculated. "I've never done a publicity stunt in my life," he insisted. “I don't follow rules of, like, normal celebrity. I don't do publicity stunts—period.” Watch the whole thing here. The other highlight was a family-friendly a cappella reimagining of Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” on which she was joined by The Roots and Jimmy Fallon in a checkerboard arrangement borrowed from the opening of The Brady Bunch. Whether Miley was on Fallon to make a point or just showing off, the performance and presentation are a sheer delight. Take a look. (10/10a)
