Great American Nightmare

DR. ZOMBIE'S HOUSE OF HORRORS: Rob Zombie's Great American Nightmare, a gigantic Halloween extravaganza comprising music, mazes and assorted monstrous mayhem at the L.A. FEARplex (aka Fairplex) in Pomona, CA, kicked off earlier this month and concludes 11/2 with Zombie's headlining show. Musical participants include punk standard-bearers Jello Biafra and 45 Grave and Agent Orange, amped-up freaks Eagles of Death Metal, party-hardy rocker Andrew W.K. and assorted metal, EDM, Latin and other acts. The event, produced by Zombie, manager Andy Gould and Haunted House master Steve Kopelman, and created with WARPED Tour producer Kevin Lyman and Mayhem's John Reese, sprawls across 150k square feet of blood-spattered fairground; it offers three sick mazes to the stout-hearted (no little kids allowed): The Haunt of 1,000 Corpses, the lewd and lurid Haunted World of El Superbeasto 3D (in which, Gould reports, attendees actually walk through a giant vagina) and the claustrophic Lords of Salem in Total Black Out. Zombie’s 11/2 show sold out in advance and tickets are now available for an 11/1 show. "We understand that this is just the first year, and we're committed to building the brand of the event over the long haul," says Gould. "But next year we hope to expand to other locations in the Western U.S." It's a scary prospect, but a welcome one. (10/25p)
