Quincy sues MJJ, SME

Q SCORE? Quincy Jones filed a breach-of-contract suit against Michael Jackson's estate and Sony Music in L.A. Superior Court on Friday. MJ’s producer believes he’s owed millions of dollars in mechanical royalties, alleging that MJJ Productions and Sony denied him royalties, fees and profit-sharing as they exploited Jackson's work through the film This Is It, a pair of Cirque du Soleil shows, the related soundtracks and the 25th anniversary edition of Bad. According to the lawsuit, the masters of Jones-produced tracks were remixed and edited to deprive him of compensation he was entitled to under deals dating back to MJ’s 1979 album Off the Wall. The $20 million suit occasioned a war of words between attorneys for the two camps as they licked their lips in anticipation of a big payday of their own. (10/28a)
