RULES ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN: This morning’s announcement that Justin Timberlake will perform on the AMAs (ABC, 11/24) has caused some industry observers to wonder whether the Grammys will invoke the “rule” that an appearance on another awards show automatically eliminates an artist from consideration for performing on Music’s Biggest Night. Our sources tell us this unwritten rule is no longer a factor in choosing performers and hasn’t been for several years; the only factor that matters these days is ratings. (11/11p)
