Streaming trumps file sharing

ZEN RIDDLE: Q: Where is a stream more powerful than a torrent? A: On the Internet, silly! File sharing now accounts for less than 10% of total daily traffic in North America, CNET reveals, drawing its figures from Sandvine’s twice yearly Global Internet Phenomena Report. That’s down from the more than 60% P2P netted in the first Global Internet Phenomena Report, released more than 10 years ago. Five years ago, it accounted for more than 31%. Meanwhile, video and audio streaming continues to eat up the greatest traffic, and together, Netflix and YouTube account for 50.31% of downstream traffic in North America during the peak part of the day. Interestingly porn doesn’t make an appearance on the stat sheet. (11/13a)
