iTunes jumps: albums

DOWNLOAD (ALL OF) THIS: Forget Bitcoin—this time of year, iTunes gift cards are the currency of the realm. So which albums are kids using those stocking-stuffers to buy? Naturally the yule-themed titles fall off, with only two remaining in the Top 20: the dime-a-song collection 100 Christmas Hits and PTXmas by Madison Gate’s Pentatonix. The leading albums continue to lead; several key titles moved up the chart powered by holiday loot and, in several cases, $7.99 pricing. Jumping up are Columbia’s One Direction (#7-3 today; full price), KidinaKorner/Interscope’s Imagine Dragons (#11-6), Capitol’s Katy Perry (#17-10), Mosley/Interscope’s OneRepublic (#18-12), Republic’s Ariana Grande (a big gainer with a #31-14 spike), Capitol Nashville’s Luke Bryan (#25-16; full price), part 2 of The 20/20 Experience by RCA’s Justin Timberlake (soaring to #19 from below the Top 100) and Domino’s Arctic Monkeys (#26-20). Outside the Top 20, Island/IDJ’s Fall Out Boy (#36-21), Virgin’s Bastille (#32-24), JT’s 20/20 part 1 (#57-34), Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam/IDJ’s Kanye West (#53-37), Columbia’s The Neighbourhood (#61-36), indie Macklemore (#56-39), Prospect Park’s Five Finger Death Punch (#55-38) and Interscope’s Lana Del Rey (#65-43) show renewed muscle, while RCA’s Kid Ink (#70-48), Columbia’s Juicy J (#85-53) make impressive leaps. This list is by no means exhaustive, of course. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have to download some Iron Butterfly while quaffing the leftover eggnog, which goes surprisingly well with the mescaline.
