Forum reopening

NEW KID IN TOWN: MSG majordomo Jim Dolan and Irving Azoff welcomed 13,700 of their closest friends to the grand, sold-out reopening of the Forum, fresh with some $100 million worth of renovations as it gets set to take on AEG’s Staples Center. JD and the Straight Shot opened for the Eagles, who offered a nearly three-hour retrospective of their career, dubbed “History of the Eagles,” with Glenn Frey and Don Henley taking turns leading us through the band’s narrative. The gleaming Forum offered crisp living-room sound, terrific sight lines and plush theater seating, even if the leg room was as cramped as ever, though the intimacy of the room was impressive. “Life in the Fast Lane” finished the regular portion of the concert before three encores capped off by a majestic “Hotel California,” “Take It Easy” and Henley’s plaintive “Desperado,” sending VIPs back into the newly remodeled, spacious Forum Club, where the likes of Rob Light, Richard Palmese, Knicks PR man Barry Watkins, Larry Solters, Forum GM Nick Spampanato and assorted freeloading media types got to belly up to the open bar and dine on a menu that included blackened sea bass, ribeye steak, kobe beef sliders, coconut shrimp, squash ravioli, crabcakes, salt water taffy, chocolate pretzels and apple caramel crumble. The show was the first of six Eagles performances over the next two weeks which will launch the refurbished venue. Look for a complete review tomorrow morning in “Trakin Care of Business.” (1/16a)
