Lorde goes #1 Urban

LORDE GOES UPTOWN: When we think Urban radio, we think Lorde…don’t you? Improbably and spectacularly, “Royals” has just completed its climb to #1 at the format. This remarkable achievement gives the young Kiwi phenom chart-toppers at five formats; the force-of-nature record has previously hit #1 at Alternative, Triple A, Hot AC and Top 40. Putting the feat in perspective, no track has ever before hit the Alternative-Triple A-Urban trifecta, while only Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” had racked up #1s at five formats until now. Huge props to Republic's Monte and Avery Lipman, Charlie Walk, Gary Spangler and David Nathan for thinking outside the box, and to and SVP Urban Promotion Michael Horton for delivering. That Grammy appearance next Sunday is now locked and loaded for the Lava/Republic sensation. Geronimo. And in case you'd forgotten, the Academy, in its great wisdom, didn't see fit to give her a Best New Artist nom. D'oh. (1/19p)
