Lyor's new digs

LIFESTYLES OF THE OVERLEVERAGED AND FAMOUS: Once again establishing his bona fides as a man of the people who understands the needs of the developing artist, Lyor Cohen has plunked down an eight-figure sum for a new home. “Cohen is playing a high-stakes game of musical townhouses,” the New York Post noted last March, reporting that he’d been looking to replace the East 94th St. townhouse he’d sold to Blackstone’s Joseph Baratta for $25 million. Now TheRealDeal.com blog reports that Cohen, who's been renting the West Village townhouse owned by Chipotle founder Steve Ellis, has purchased the crib (at 92 Jane St.) outright for some $11.4 million, a $2 loss for Ellis (Cohen lost nearly that much selling his duplex co-op at the bottom of the market, in 2009). The news follows the New York Observer's piece on the acquisition by Todd Moscowitz, Cohen's #2 guy in The 300, of a condo on West 13th St. for $4.5m. One imagines what Cohen put down for his place is considerably more than he's invested into the new company, but it could be an ideal location for his meetings with Tweety. (2/19p)
