Quantcast
Records to Check Out, part 2

CHECK IT OUT, PART 2: Still putting off packing for your SXSW trip, even though that flight leaves in two hours? Well, let us divert you with another batch of new music you should know about... Republic continues to burnish its ethos with one of our early favorites, "Lanterns" by PoMo band Birds of Tokyo (on the Loma Vista imprint) and Belgian breakout Stromae, whose "Papaoutai" is a global smash with a striking video that's earned more than 125 million views ... "Take Me to Church" by Columbia's Irish singer/songwriter Hozier is a powerful, timely song that can quickly turn into an obsession. We're also feeling London Grammar's "Hey Now" (a big jumper at Shazam U.K.)  while Cherub's "Doses & Mimosas" is an instant-reaction Shazam record... The growth of ARTium/Def Jam/IDJ's Jhene Aiko is certainly a story of the year, and her  single "The Worst" keeps gathering radio momentum. The video for "Bounce" by Island/IDJ's Iggy Azalea, meanwhile, is among the shortlisted clips featured on MTV's Woodie Awards, which go down on 3/16, and her "Fancy" impacts Rhythm next week ... Oh, and Capitol is going to Alternative radio now with "Blue Moon" from Beck's breakout album; you'll find more about that in today's story. (3/7p)
