Box Office

YOUR WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: 300: Rise of an Empire, the blood-spattered CGI sequel to 2007's The 300 (neither film, btw, features Lyor Cohen and/or Mosco) ruled this weekend's box office with $45 million. That's a substantial dip from the original but still outstripped its closest rival for movieplex tix, animated outing Mr. Peabody & Sherman. Meanwhile, the LEGOS have put together $225m so far, and Son of God hangs in there despite a 61% second-week drop. At #17, Wes Anderson's acclaimed The Grand Budapest Hotel earned a Yelp-worthy $800k in just four theaters. We'll let you do that math.

1. 300: Rise of an Empire Warner Bros. $45m 3,470/$12,983 avg. (debut)
2. Mr. Peabody & Sherman Fox $32.5m 3,934/$8,261 avg. (debut)
3. Non-Stop Universal $15.3m (-47%) 3,113/$4,940 avg. (week 2)
4. The LEGO Movie Warner Bros. $11m (47%) 3,271/$3,345 avg. (week 5)
5. Son of God Fox $10m (-61%) 2,001/$3,057 avg (week 2)

Best Picture Oscar winner 12 Years a Slave has moved into the Top 10, going wide and increasing 123%. No word yet about a CGI-heavy, 3D sequel. (3/10a)
